Compiled by a big director and starring a classy actor apparently is not a guarantee of a drama of success. Like 'The King: Eternal Monarch' which has continued to decline in ratings since the beginning of airing.
Last week, 'The King: Eternal Monarch' had experienced a rating increase after weeks of being in low numbers. But now, the latest episode of Lee Min Ho's drama has declined again.
Quoted from Nielsen Korea, the new episode which aired on May 22, 2020 only received a 5.2 percent rating nationally.
This figure is also the lowest rating obtained by 'The King: Eternal Monarch' during its broadcast.
Previously, this drama indeed sparked a lot of controversy after several times using Japanese portrayals. Like when the fictional world of the Korean kingdom depicted in the opening drama shows a picture of a building that is exactly like a temple in Japan. One of them is even said to be similar to the Japanese temple complex Todai-ji, which makes people speculate the location is the inspiration of drama design.
Not only that, the audience also saw similarities between the imperial seal of the Korean Empire and the true Japanese empire. Both are equally shaped flowers.
The production team has also expressed an apology in this regard, and promised to be more careful in the future. However, it is uncertain whether the downgrade is the influence of this controversy. (dal / wes)
