"I didn't die in the movie," the musician said of her character's fate in 1998 film 'I Still Know What You Did Last Summer'

Brandy is set to return for the upcoming sequel to I Know What You Did Last Summer.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter , the 45-year-old singer and actress insisted that she has not been contacted about the upcoming slasher film, despite her character Karla Wilson's ill-fated fate in 1998's I Still Know What You Did Last Summer.

"I need them to call me because I survived the movie!" Brandy told the outlet. "I finally came out, covered in blood, ready to go. I didn't die in the movie!"

She then gave a shout-out to Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr., who starred in the hit teen horror film and its sequel in 1997. The two are reportedly in talks to reprise their roles in the new film.

"Jennifer, Freddie, call me!" Brandy said.

News of a new I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel first broke in February 2023, with Deadline, Variety, and The Hollywood Reporter reporting that Sony Pictures was in the early stages of developing the project and that Jennifer Kaytin Robinson — who co-wrote Thor: Love and Thunder and directed Netflix's Do Revenge — was attached to direct. Leah McKendrick (Scrambled) is reportedly penning the script.

The franchise, based on Lois Duncan's 1973 novel of the same name, follows a group of friends trying to survive a hook-wielding killer who is after them for covering up a car crash that killed a man.

Despite headlines about a planned sequel, Brandy told THR she had no idea a sequel was in the works until they asked her about it. "I had no idea Sony was putting it together," the "Boy Is Mine" hitmaker said. "That's exciting!"

She reiterated that she was unaware of the highly anticipated film. "I'm not kidding you," Brandy told the outlet. “I didn’t know that!”

The new film is said to follow the story established in the original film, unlike the 2006 I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot and the 2021 Prime Video TV series, which were original stories.

On July 30, Prinze Jr. told Entertainment Tonight that he hopes to return as Ray Bronson in the sequel but that nothing has been set in stone yet.

“Negotiations are weird. One week goes great and the next week goes bad,” he told the outlet. “We haven’t had a bad week yet so there could be a bad week [coming]. I don’t know, but I’m not going to get too involved until the contract is signed.”

“I think both parties — them and me — are very motivated to get it done,” he added.

Luckily, Prinze Jr. is friends with Robinson, who worked with his wife Sarah Michelle Gellar on Do Revenge . "[Robinson] was the one who talked to me a year ago before the studio talked to me about it," the She's All That actor said, noting that the director asked him, "'Would you — would you do this?' "

As for Hewitt, 45, she told ET in May that she was "honestly terrified" to reprise her role but would bring her character "back with 26 years of anxiety, knowledge, excitement (which I'm going to turn into a word) and fun."

"Honestly, it's just so incredible to think about," she said. "If it did happen, I don't even know how I would feel except for so overwhelmed and grateful, but it's so incredible to think about... It's great to know that people are excited about the possibility. I think it would be so much fun if it did happen." /people.com
